CITY COLLEGE - New school semesters bring new changes. As always communication from the Administration is poor and we CCNY students aren’t aware of any of them. Here’s a quick article that compiles the information you actually need to get through the semester with not only a full stomach but a full wallet.
There have been updates and additions to the cafeteria and both the cafes:
The Lodge, located in the NAC 2nd floor cafeteria.
HOURS OF OPERATION:
Monday to Thursday, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm
Closed on Fridays
Citizen Chicken, a fried chicken stall offering sandwiches, fries, and baskets. As well as a plant based chicken sandwich alternative, averaging around $10 an item.
Uptown Sam’s, a subway style sandwich stall. Also offering pre-made sandwiches and salad bowls that average from around $8 to $10.
Grains Greens, a build your own salad line, with the price of $.69/oz.
Mezze Table, a Mediterranean stall where you can build-your-own bowl or pita sandwich. There are three options to start your order: The Mezze Plate (Pita, Hummus, and toppings) for $12.99 , The Power Bowl (Mixed greens or Quinoa and Toppings) for $12.99, and finally The Sandwich/Gyro plate for $11.99.
Benny’s Cafe I, located in the NAC 2nd floor Rotunda.
HOURS OF OPERATION:
Monday – Thursday, 7:30 am – 5:00 pm
Friday, 7:30 am – 3:00 pm
The NAC Cafe has started carrying Starbucks products:
Prices have changed to standard Starbucks pricing.
Coffee sizes have changed to Starbucks sizes (tall, grande, venti).
Still offering yogurt, sandwiches, and pastries at a $1 markup.
Benny’s Cafe II, located in Marshak 1st floor cafeteria.
HOURS OF OPERATION:
Monday – Thursday, 7:30 am – 4:00 pm
Closed on Fridays
Along with Benny’s Cafe I, Benny’s Cafe II has also been turned into a Starbucks.
Same changes have been made to both Benny's Cafes.
No microwave available.
Offers yogurt, sandwiches, and pastries.
In addition to the new food options around campus, CCNY has also introduced a new meal plan. Implementation has been a little confusing as information on what to do is not easy to find. But, staff is available in The Lodge if you have any questions. The meal plan offers two distinct advantages over paying with cash or card. With the meal plan, students will deposit money into “Beaver Bucks.” Then they can use their “Beaver Bucks” through Apple/Google Pay (tax free), at all cafes and cafeterias within CCNY. There is a 10% bonus to however much deposited, so if you deposit $100 then a $10 bonus is added to your account.
There’s also a free dietitian service offered, complimentary of Aladdin. A kiosk in The Lodge lists all their services along with a dietitian’s contact card. You can reach out to the dietitian for a personalized diet plan or general nutrition advice. However, it’s important to mention, when The Paper reached out to said dietitian at the listed email, they failed to return any response.
